Chairman of the Board Challenge

Steve Hardie Chairman's ChallengeSteve Hardie’s Half-Marathon Challenge

What started out as a personal milestone for Wildlife Images Chairman of the Board, Steve Hardie’s 60th birtday soon become a fundraising event for Wildlife Images. Below and in his own words, Steve Hardie explains his personal challenge.

“Through a lot of encouragement from my friends and family I have agree to do a 1/2 Iron Man, June 29th in Lubbock Texas. This is a 70.3 mile race which includes 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run.  My son got wind of this and put a $5,000 challenge grant to Wildlife Images if I can complete it. Other friends and family members joined in and it has now grown to over $24,000!

A good friend of mine said be very careful about letting your goals be known because people will hold you accountable. Well, there it is. This is my goal as I turn 60. Never in my most wildest dreams did I ever envision myself taking on such and ambitious challenge. The difference between saying, ‘I’m just going to exercise and be healthy,’ verses doing a 1/2 Iron Man is that you TRAIN for this, something I’ve never done before. Also the donations to my charity (Wildlife Images) makes me feel like a professional athlete with sponsors that I can’t disappoint.

This goal goes well with my personal philosophy of continuous improvement of mental, physical and spiritual health. Wildlife Images also fits the goal of continuous improvement and I believe we are well on track. Thank you all for your support, wish me luck and no injuries!

Steve did his first warm up race in San Diego February 23rd and will run another training race in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 19th.

If anyone is interested in supporting Steve Hardie’s BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) by donating to our center in his name please give us a call at 541.476.0222 and ask to donate to Hardie’s 60 1/2 Marathon.

Stay tuned we will keep you updated as we move closer to the June 29th date! GO STEVE!!!
