Our Mission: Saving Wildlife

Charlie

Learn About Charlie

  • Classification: Reptile
  • Species: Chinese Water Dragon (Physignathus cocincinus)
  • Lifespan in the Wild: 10-20yrs
  • Length: 2-3ft
  • Range in the Wild: Southeastern Asia
  • Habitat in the Wild: Riparian
    • Diet in the Wild: Opportunists: lizards, small mammals, insects, plants
    • Diet at Wildlife Images: rodents, roaches, veggies, fruit, mealworms, snails, crickets
    • Gender: Female

Charlie was given a home at Wildlife Images when her owners could no longer support her care. They still love her and visit when they can, but the traveler’s life is not meant for such high maintenance critters. She has a mouth injury from getting herself caught in a fan at some point in her life before WLI. The injury was already healed upon her arrival and has not caused any problems since she’s been with us. Every spring she goes ‘gravid’ meaning she is preparing her body to lay eggs, despite the fact that she doesn’t have a partner. When she is gravid she tends to look sickly, skinny, and her energy can be a bit frantic. This is normal and it will pass.

With over 80 animal ambassadors, and over 1,000 sick injured and orphaned animals brought to our center each year - every dollar counts. We rely solely on people like yourself to support the work we do.

We receive no State or Federal funding and depend entirely on private funds to carry out our Mission.
