Animal advocate and community partner Dan Hughes will be deeply missed by his friends at Wildlife Images. Dan passed away unexpectantly on December 24th. He was a critical part of getting Wildlife Images off the ground.
Back in 1981, his guidance, sound advice, and legal acumen set Wildlife Images on a sound foundation as a non-profit organization. Over the years, since its founding, Dan has been an active contributing board member who continued to shape the organization we are today. Dan even passed his love for animals and Wildlife Images onto his children and grandchildren. Dan’s granddaughters Lily, Ella, and Dani have spent many summer weeks at Camp EEK!.
This past summer, Dan was honored at our annual Saving Wildlife event. He was never one to seek the spotlight but that warm summer night Dave Siddon, Jr. asked Dan to stand and be recognized for standing alongside Wildlife Images for so many faithful years.
A message from Dave Siddon, Jr. – Wildlife Images’ Executive Director
Dan had something rare: the unique combination of a brilliant mind, honesty beyond reproach, and the ability to keep the human side of every situation in mind. He always managed to keep us on track and I relied on his ability to ensure that we never strayed from the original mission as the times changed. I admired Dan’s depth of character and his capacity to deal with serious legal matters but, most of all, he never lost his passion for wildlife and preserving our environment. I feel so lucky to have been able to call him my friend. He will be missed.
Dan’s Celebration of Life will be held at the Boys and Girls Club in Grants Pass on Sunday, January 28th from 3:00 – 6:00. The family encourages anyone who knew Dan and valued his work in our community to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in Dan’s name to The Boys and Girls Club of Grants Pass or WildLife Images.
